Not to send to Festival Programmers

Just a little tip to aspiring filmmakers....
This bloody bat came in the mail during the submission process with a
scary note attached, "watch my movie."
Please note, this did not help get the film in the festival....

Should I have received this, I'd have supposed in the first place that this was intended to be humor, especially if the film was (as it turned out to be) a horror movie -not even to mention the bat scene. Would the film have been a romantic comedy, I'd have run straight away to report this at the nearest police station.
BUT, still, you never know who's going to get the mail, and sending this is kind of like a casino bet ; it can help, or not, and most of the time you loose. I'm curious, though, was the film selected? (I mean, apart from this).

sadly the film wasn't selected but it didn't have anything to do with the bat ultimately. all things sent with films are separated from the film and we just watch the movies.

i'm sure the filmmakers meant it in humor althought it's dark humor and i post it in that spirit - it's one of the strangest things ever sent... usually we just get t-shirts and chocolates but since it was separated from the film when i opened it... it was freaky.

We received the bloody bat, as well. In all honesty, my kid thought it was the coolest marketing ploy ever.

I felt a little bad that they spent so much money sending it. It is unique. Perhaps since we're in France I didn't feel a threat that one might feel if the bat came from down the block. The bat made us revisit the conversation of the film, in essence that made us consider (or reconsider) the film. Most likely because of the bat, I can still remember the name of the film. And, honestly... we're still talking about it now (in this blog).

Ultimately, while we respected the unique approach, the film did not make it into the festival.

It's very cool to connect with someone else who had 'the bat' experience.

i love that your son loved it Christine!
sorry for the late reply, i kind of went off line for the holidays.
it is true, it worked on some level since so many programmers commented on it.
i can't remember the film as much as the bat but still very funny.
